JacTravel wins Queen’s Enterprise Award for International Trade

21 Apr 2016

JacTravel has been awarded the  prestigious Queen’s Enterprise Award for international trade on account of its export growth.  Overseas sales have nearly tripled in the six years to 2015, rising to over 80% of the business. Company figures show net profits rose from £2 million in 2009 to £7 million in 2013 and in 2014. Total sales increased from £70 million to £166 million, with the overseas component up from £50 million to £140 million. The number of employees in the UK rose from 51 to 242.

Now in its 41st year, JacTravel is one of the world's premier suppliers of online hotel bookings and a market-leading provider of tailored tours to groups visiting the UK and Ireland. Since the acquisition of TotalStay last year, the company now serves 92 countries worldwide, with a portfolio of over 12,000 directly contracted and over 100,000 indirectly contracted hotels. It handles 1.5 million bookings annually; has a global distribution network of 20,000 travel partners and 14 offices employing more than 500 staff.

Chief executive Terry Williamson, a qualified accountant and travel industry veteran, joined JacTravel in 2008 and since then has overseen the company’s continuous growth. Previously, he has worked with Thomas Cook and the Monarch Travel Group.

Terry said: “We’re delighted to win the Queen’s Award which is significant recognition of our efforts to grow and develop JacTravel into a global market leader.”

He continued: “The travel industry is a stimulating and highly competitive sector that continues to expand year on year. Our core markets – France, Germany and the US – remain strong and of course we are also benefiting from increased travel from the emerging markets such as China and India.”
