Bodini Bows Out

9 Dec 2015

After nearly 35 years at the helm of JacTravel, the accommodation wholesaler, Mario Bodini has decided it’s finally time to check out.  His last day will be on Tuesday 22nd December.

Mario has been instrumental in helping JacTravel develop from a traditional inbound tour operator to a world-leading online global wholesaler of hotel accommodation.  He joined JacTravel in 1981 having already set up a successful outbound tour operation after graduating from university. In 1985 he set up the inbound tour operation into Europe focused on the Asian and US source markets.

As Managing Director of JacTravel, Mario focused on growing the high-volume inbound groups markets and played a leading role in establishing the company as an online provider of hotel accommodation to retail travel businesses. He also drove the expansion of JacTravel’s offering outside the UK, which has been a vital step in achieving global growth.

As CEO of JacTravel, Mario was actively involved in all aspects of business expansion, especially in new geographic markets, resulting in the doubling of the business during the years 2009 to 2012. In 2013 he became Executive Vice President, focusing on key clients, major new sales opportunities and key supplier relationships.

Following the investment by Vitruvian Partners in July 2014, Mario agreed to remain with the company to help to develop its business globally, particularly in the Asian and Chinese markets. With significant business in those markets now flowing and systems integrated into the wider commercial function, Mario now feels the time has come to say good bye.

Mario also has taken on wider roles representing the inbound tourism industry, as a Director of UK Inbound and most recently as Chairman of the European Tourism Association, ETOA.  In this capacity he has been a passionate advocate of tourism as a creator of jobs and a generator of export revenue.  He has also been outspoken when times have been challenging, most notably highlighting distorted perceptions in the hotel market before and during the London Olympics.

Terry Williamson, CEO, concluded: “Mario has played an instrumental role in developing JacTravel into the global and successful company it has become today. Mario’s commitment to the JacTravel cause and his passion for what we do and how we do it have helped to shape the business over the decades. It is now our job to build upon that legacy.  The whole JacTravel family offers a sincere and heartfelt thank you to Mario for his many years of loyal and committed service. We all wish him well in his future endeavours.”
